Can't send PDF files in inbox?

Has anyone else tried to send PDF files in the new message inbox?

It looks like a small gif file, not opening as a PDF file. Is there some trick to sending PDF files so they open as PDF files after they are sent?

I have not tried sending a DOC file in the new inbox. Do they appear as normal DOC files?
