Sometimes it’s not even necessary to call names, Sir, Madam, Mr or Mrs. The buyer may only be interested in getting the job done. They may not want to know who you are or what where you are from. Some only care about getting quality services.

No, never! Many cultures do not like that.

Only if they sign their message with their first name, which indicates to me they want to be called by their first name.

I always call my buyers by their user name.

Or simply say, “Hello.”

In addition to what has been advised:

Suggest you do not address others as dear, mate, brother, sister, etc. as lots of people don’t like it and it will put many buyers off.

Why don’t you say, “hi, how are you, what’s your name?”
It works for me because I like to feel personable.
I also call them, ‘love.’ I am very personable.

It helps to look at the buyer feedback to give you clues of him or her. or just not say anything at all regarding their gender. In the end, it’s better to say ‘what is your name.’
