Help with poedit

Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me.
I am not too familiar with working with poedit.
But I personally always thought that the text on the left side (source; I tried but couldn’t change the text on the left side) is the text that was stored in the file and that needed to be translated while the text on the ride side (translation) was the recommended suggestion the software created for you and which you eventually needed to check and change.
Can anyone please confirm this statement or if I am wrong let me know I am wrong?
