How do you respond to this?

If you responded to a buyer request to offer your services, and the person got back to you saying they want you to do a sample before they hire you, would you do it or not? It is for transcription job, and I wouldn’t know if he sent the same message to 20 other people, and got away with a whole transcription for free, with just quote unquote, sample work.

I personally would ask that he purchase a single $5 gig as a sample. If he doesn’t want to pay, I’d find a video similar to his and transcribe a small portion of that instead as the sample. Since it’s your transcribing skills he’s interested in, it shouldn’t matter that you’ve used a different video. That is, if his intentions are true.
