… it strikes me as an odd thing to thank God for helping you achieve your levels or sales goals on Fiverr. I don’t know why I feel this way, but I remember something something about camels passing through the eye of a needle?

#2

Some people routinely thank God for everything. People often underestimate their own power to accomplish things in a type of learned helplessness.

The camel and needle was about how it’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter heaven.

I’ve seen people saying “Pray for me” when starting out on fiverr, as if they have been diagnosed with cancer and are terrified they not live.

I’m making the jump into the dangerous and possibly deadly pool known as fiverr-- PRAY FOR ME! The phrase “pray for me” should not be tossed around for any and every situation in life in my opinion.

I believe in God, but would never ask anyone to pray for me, the very thought of it makes me cringe. I ask God’s help often and thank Him for the good things in my life, but I am aware that it is all down to me as to what I make of my life. But God does give an inspiration from time to time- nobody told me about the freelance writing thing or about Fiverr and when I got here nobody told me what to do and what not to do…Also, I feel the “camel and needle” analogy is wrong. Getting God’s blessings has nothing to do with whether you are rich or poor - it is about doing your duty and leading a virtuous life. Money has nothing to do with it.

Caveat: That’s from the Hindu point of view.

#5

Also, my personal experiences have trained me to be very independent and generally distrustful of people. So I could never ask anyone to pray for me. I mean, who are they to pray for me.

#6

I think the “camel and needle” analogy, has more to do with people who become rich and forget about morality and spirituality. Sometimes, the opportunity to do “wrong” is more accessible (for want of a better word) to one who is extremely wealthy.

I thank Greek, Norse & Roman gods personally, I prefer polytheism, one god seems kind of like a dictatorship to me… :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the main reason why they thank God for helping them achieve their Levels or sales goals on Fiverr is because of this quotation

((In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight

Well, some people say that ‘666’ translates as ‘www’ in ancient Hebrew numerology. In this case, maybe the ‘god’ people pray to for success on Fiverr is none other than Baphomet or Baal slowly becoming incarnate in the world by means of the Internet itself.

The Internet is, after all, always watching you, listening to you, and made of 90% dark web and pornography. In this regard, it perfectly fits the allegory of a multi-headed all powerful beast rising out of a sea. - (If that is, that sea is also assumed to be a metaphor for a sea of human consciousness).

In fact, if this is the case, praying to some great Internet god makes perfect sense.

They probably won’t get to Heaven, though…

I don´t believe in God nor religion. But I don´t mind if some people believe in God/religion, it is their lives so they are free to believe whatever they want as long as they leave me alone. There are too many Gods throughout the history and everyone believes that their God is the real God/Gods because that´s what they have been taught. If they had been born in a different family, most likely they would believe in a different God (depends on what the family believes in).

#11

I like Hindu people in general (the real ones). I see them as very tolerant people and non-judgemental (they never say anything bad about other religions) and they are not forceful.

#12

All you said is true but the Biblical reference was pointing out that if you have so much more than other people who are starving for instance you should give it all away to them. It was talking about greed and the need for charity.
Jesus was the ultimate socialist.

Some see the evil in actively worshiping anything. If you think about it the very act is obscene. I praise the earth, sun, moon, stars and all the creatures, plants, waters and rocks of the earth. These are the givers of life. These are our family.

If Jesus walked out of the pages of the Bible today and started preaching outside the Republican National Convention, they’d have him arrested for disturbing the peace and call him “yet another rude and inconsiderate Black Lives Matter protester.”

I think it’s up to people to decide how they follow their own faith. While you may no understand it, the person feels it and so that’s all that really matters. God and religion is such a personal thing. People believe God and Jesus help them, and it doesn’t hurt you, then who cares?

#17

Yes, religion is a personal thing. But some people literally knock on other people´s door to preach and try to ˝shove their belief into other people´s throats˝.

#18

But this thread is about thanking God for reaching a level. Not door to door Christ sales. There are all kinds of believers. Not all are behaved awesome. Sort of like not all Fiverr sellers behave awesome.

#19

I never said it was about door to door Christ sales. But if you want to put it that way, then up to you. I guess my previous comment seems too close to home?

I am being pestered by Jehovah’s Witnesses since I was nice to them a while back. I should tell them I’m a witch but I’m afraid they might do something awful. I did tell them I was not a Christian but that is the same as waving a red flag in front of a bull.
