The Advantage of Hiring a Disinterested Third Party

#1

This discussion is geared towards small business owners. I’d like to highlight the advantage of hiring a disinterested third-party to engage in several aspects of your business.

Mystery Shopper / Auditor

How many times have you been to a website that you liked but that lacked social media integration? How difficult is it to have a Facebook login or a Twitter login on your website? For you, it may be difficult because that’s not what you do but in this day and age it’s necessary for you to have that to engage your customers.

One of the things that happens when you have a fresh set of eyes is that they’re able to give you the advantage of their perspective and show you things that you may not be able to see about your business. You’re too involved on a day-to-day basis in your business, which is a good thing! What happens, though, is that you might lose sight of simple things you could do to improve your business.

It might take someone from the outside to point out small failures which could be corrected by additional training for your staff or by improving internal processes. Most people come to work wanting to do a good job. What’s usually lacking is training or the tools that they need to do their job properly and to help your customers.

An example of this would be finding that people in your organization don’t all answer the phone the same way. This is usually not the fault of the people answering the phone. It’s usually that they don’t have a script to follow. Although this isn’t critical, It does affect the perception of your brand in the eyes of your customer.

An extension of this inconsistency is finding that different people give different answers to the same question that is asked of them by your customers. This is a lack of training and a lack of standardization in your internal process. The solution here would be to have a knowledge base or even something as simple as a script that your employees can use to answer frequently asked questions.

Focus on your Core Competency

Outsourcing everything that is outside of your core expertise is a great idea because it allows you to focus on what you do best. Considering how inexpensive this outsourcing is on this site, it should be a no-brainer to outsource! What’s more, if you plan it correctly, the risk is minimal.

Answer this question for yourself:

What is my core business?

For example, if you happen to be a graphic designer, that is your core business. Everything else, including accounting, social media marketing, having your taxes done, and having a PayPal button on your website should be done by someone else on your behalf.

I would encourage you to browse all the categories of gigs that are available here. This will expand your knowledge as to what is available as an outsourcing service and, hopefully, it’ll strike you when you need it the most!

There are several other advantages that can be covered but this is just a start.

Note: Just in case it’s a question, ‘disinterested’ is not the same as ‘uninterested’. A search for ‘disinterested versus uninterested’ should highlight the difference. Thank you.
