Videos & Writing?

Hi, just wondering if videos are helpful/useful/bring more customers if it is all for writing/research/teaching/proofreading based gigs? I can understand how it would be really helpful for some gigs, but I just want to know if it is worth the effort for these kind of gigs.

Yeah, it could help. Also, if you’re a good writer, show some samples of your past work. That’ll get you gigs.

There’s also a lot you can say in a video that’s hard to fit into the short description space. In the case of writing/editing gigs, it might also encourage some buyers to hear you speak and see that you truly are fluent and capable in the language.



I’ve been meaning to put some videos up on my gigs for a while now…I just hate looking at myself on the camera. 😛

PS. @tesspfeifle I was just looking at your profile, and I have to say I enjoyed your gig photos (that Bodleian Library!). I spent a semester in England myself, so it brought back some good memories. 🙂

Video makes you real to clients. Doesn’t need to be fancy, and you don’t even have to be on camera the full time, just a portion so people can connect. The rest can be slideshow with voice over by you.

They can help, and you don’t even have to be on camera if you don’t want to. Just make a “commercial” about your script. I’ve used this guy before.

I don’t have one and haven’t needed it, as I’m very busy here as it is, but if things slowed down ever, I would do one. You can keep it simple, from what I hear, and just use your computer camera. I think it’s more to show a little personality and intelligence, so people can relate to you–in the case of us writers, at least.

Yes definitely they can help, and you don’t even have to be on camera if you don’t want. I’ve also created a video with just only showing my work samples. Also you can hire someone to create a good commercial video.
