What is the forum's "notifications" for?

I’ve been in the forums for a few days now, and notice that I’ve never had a notification. I use the mobile version btw. Have anyone ever received a notification? If so, what was the nature of it? It would be nice if I could get notified when someone tags me in a comment. Its hard keeping up with all the threads I’ve commented.
